FINAL HAND STORY

Bottoms up

This month’s novelties include celebrity behinds and bad behaviour from Ashley Cole. We’re not turning into Heat magazine, honest. Reece Brown reports

BUMS OF NOTE

Nominations have been flooding in for this year’s eagerly anticipated ‘Rear Of The Year’ award. Yes, that’s right, the big one is here. Unlike the dull Baftas or the ever-so-boring British Soap Awards, the Rear Of The Year award celebrates real talent.

This year there is stiff competition for the prestigious gong with Dancing On Ice presenter Holly Willoughby appearing as an early front-runner for the crown. The 29-year-old This Morning presenter is 7/1 favourite with William Hill after a string of strong rear end performances. Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole is hot on her heels at 8/1.

John Terry’s wife Toni could have something to smile about after a torrid few weeks if she picks up the award, you can get her at 10/1. Interestingly if you think Toni’s adversory Vanessa Perroncel has a better behind she is available at (14/1).

If you’re feeling adventurous (or stupid) then there are some interesting rank outsiders. Britain’s new global singing sensation Susan Boyle is priced at 50/1 to take home the award, whilst Britain’s deputy leader Harriet Harman is a surprise entry at 20/1.

PRESIDENT WILL SMITH?

After President Obama’s claims that he would like Will Smith to play him on the big screen if a film was ever made about his rise to the White House, Paddy Power has opened up a special book on the Hollywood star becoming the commander-in-chief of the US.

The bookmakers have the former Fresh Prince Of Bel Air star priced at 250/1 to follow in the footsteps of former US president Ronald Reagan and make the transition from Hollywood actor to president. The feat is not as ridiculous as it sounds, taking into consideration of course the rise of Terminator star Arnold Schwarzenegger to governor of California.

Interestingly Smith is 33/1 to succeed Arnie in California. While for those who like to play a little safer a far better bet is that the Men In Black star sticks to acting, and plays the role of Obama before 2020 (7/4).

CHERYL’S NEXT MOVE

Already this year we’ve heard rumours that the end was nigh in the ‘Brangelina’ romance story. Now we read that Cheryl and Ashley Cole are living apart. This comes after news broke of the footballer’s text relationship with a Page Three model, during which he allegedly sent nude photos of himself whilst on England duty. British bookmakers Paddy Power, sensing that the marriage is on the rocks, have jumped three steps ahead to open a book on who the gorgeous Geordie will date if she splits from her husband.

The most interesting of these odds comes in the form of a 250/1 bet that the Girls Aloud star will team up with demoted England captain John Terry for the unlikeliest of relationships. I don’t think the tabloids could write a better story. More serious odds (if there is such a thing) have F1 ace Lewis Hamilton at 6/1, while other names such as Aston Merrygold (8/1) and Marvin Humes (8/1) of JLS have also cropped up.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE PLAY-OFF RUMOURED

Reports have been circulating over the last few weeks that the Premier League is seriously considering creating a Champions League play-off for the teams that finish between fourth and seventh position to compete for the final Champions League position.

The controversial proposal has received a mixed reaction in the football world with some people believing it is just a ploy to increase the Premier League’s revenue. While predictably most people involved with clubs outside the big four think the idea is a good one.

William Hill offer 9/2 that the idea is introduced next season and 1/8 that it will not happen in 2010/11.
