Owners of the Asian Poker Tour, Asian Logic, have announced that Macau is set to feature prominently as the backdrop of a forthcoming Chinese language poker film.
The new film, currently working under the title Poker King, will be the first Chinese film to focus on poker and will be shot at the Asian Poker Tour’s much-anticipated Macau Festival from 12-23 August.
Taking place at the Galaxy Starworld hotel and casino, the APT Macau will provide the perfect setting for what looks set to be a ground-breaking movie in Asia, with many people predicting that Poker King will have a similar impact on poker in the East to what Rounders did in the western world.
The film is set to be directed by famous Chinese language director Chan Hing-Kai and Janet Chun and is expected to feature an all-star cast of A-list Chinese actors and pop stars. With a release across the region set for next year, the story of Poker King will focus on two bitter rivals competing for world championship glory.
Though other gambling films have been shot in the region, with the 1989 classic God of Gamblers starring Chow-Yun-Fat the most notable example, this will be the first to focus on poker and it is expected to further boost an already vibrant Asian market.
Tom Hall, chief executive of Asian Logic, said: “This is a very exciting project and is sure to provoke even more excitement about the Asian Poker Tour Macau Festival. Players throughout the world are encouraged to come to the Starworld and play at the APT Macau – the movie crew will be needing lots of extras!” |
