As Christmas draws ever-closer, the Premier League fixtures are beginning to snowball and this evening’s helping of midweek fixtures will no doubt throw up plenty of betting opportunities for the keen punter.
At the top of the bill, a bruised and battered Arsenal side head north to Burnley for what will certainly be a full-blooded encounter at Turf Moor. The Gunners recorded a great win in their last away fixture after coming from a goal down at Anfield to beat Liverpool 2-1, but Burnley’s home record makes their latest task equally daunting.
The Clarets have already beaten Manchester United at home this season, and the 13/2 on them scalping another top-four side may represent good value here. With injuries to so many first-team players, Arsenal look way too short to back at 1/2, but if you’re after a reasonable middle-ground, backing both teams to score could be a hot tip.
Elsewhere, table-topping Chelsea entertain bottom side Portsmouth in what should be a cast-iron home banker. However, with the Blues a miserly 1/6 on and Pompey miles away at 22/1 for the win, investing your loose change elsewhere is a must. With talk of Drogba being rested, backing Frank Lampard as first-scorer at 11/2 looks decent value, as does the 5/4 on offer about their being more than 3.5 goals in the game.
The other two fixtures see an out-of-form Liverpool side take on inconsistent Wigan and a potentially pulsating clash between Champions League hopefuls Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City. With both ties incredibly hard to call for differing reasons, your best bets look to be speculative options, with a Fernando Torres hat-trick enticing at 14/1 and a high-scoring 2-2 draw between Spurs and City a cool 12/1. |
