Calvin Ayre, the brains behind the hugely-successful Bodog online gaming brand, has announced that he is joining forces with iGaming Business and Oxfam to challenge players to donate money towards earthquake relief in Haiti.
Following the tragedy of the Caribbean nation being hit by a magnitude-seven earthquake earlier this month, Ayre has established a special website to encourage donations from the online casino community from now until January 28.
The page, which can we viewed at Oxfam.org.uk/Donate/Haiti-earthquake/Calvin-Ayre, will seek to raise as much money towards relief aid in the decimated region as possible, with Ayre himself pledging to double whatever figure the site raises.
With the earthquake causing the deaths of over 50,000 people and the destruction of several of the states’ hospitals and major landmarks, the regenerative effort is of paramount importance to the future of Haiti – and Ayre urged the online gambling industry to help out in whatever way they can.
“It is a disaster in Haiti,” said Ayre. “I want to challenge the rest of the industry to contribute to Oxfam to help out in Haiti and my private foundation will match any proven payment to Oxfam by an online gaming person up to one million dollars.”
iGaming business announced that they would unveil the total amount raised by Ayre’s relief drive at their affiliate awards, which take place in London on January 28. |
