Aussie Wins the Aussie Millions
1/2/2010
After wading through 746 players Tyron Krost managed to take down the Aussie Millions title this weekend and keep the trophy in Australia for the second consecutive year. The 23 year old Sydney native walked away with $2 million AUS after besting a tough final table which included two Betfair sponsored pros, Sorel Mizzi and former WSOPE main event champion Annette Obrestad.
Indeed, Obrestad’s 7th place finished earned her another $175,000 AUD to go along with the $40,000 AUD she won for finishing first in Event 4. As the final table got underway it was Sorel Mizzi that held the chip lead but despite putting in a strong performance he couldn’t maintain that lead until the end and finally met his match when his pocket sevens couldn’t outrace the AK of Krost. Mizzi’s 3rd place finish earned him $750,000 AUD; his largest live cash to date, but the performance of the day undoubtedly went to Krost. After disposing with arguably the toughest player at the table in Mizzi, the young Australian made short work of second place finisher Frederik Jensen to take reign as king at the Crowne Casino.
Australian poker has grown enormously over the past few years with players such as Jeff Lisandro, Joe Hachem and now Tyron Krost taking major honours. All in all the 2010 Aussie Millions was another spectacular event and one that has certainly gotten the 2010 tournament circuit off to a cracking start.
