Bookies offer Black Cats boss betting following latest Sunderland setback
With speculation mounting regarding the future of Sunderland manager Steve Bruce, bookmakers are offering odds on the identity of his potential replacement.
The Black Cats’ home defeat to fellow strugglers Wigan on Saturday has increased the pressure on Bruce, with some bookies even suspending betting on his impending departure.
As to who might step in should the former centre back leave his position, bookmakers William Hill make former Leicester and Celtic boss Martin O’Neill the big favourite at a price of 1/2. The experienced Northern Irishman has been without a managerial job since leaving Aston Villa in August 2010.
Next in the betting comes former Liverpool chief Rafa Benitez, with the Spaniard offered at a healthy 7/1. In what is a rather spread out market, Bruce’s former Manchester United teammate Mark Hughes follows at 10/1, followed by a trio of 16/1 shots in the form of ex-Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti, current Molde manager Ole Gunnar Solskaer and England under-21 head Stuart Pearce.
