World Series of Poker organisers Caesars Interactive Entertainment (CIE) took the poker world somewhat by surprise with their recent announcement that the World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) would be moving to Cannes from autumn 2011.
The opulent settings of the Casino Barriere de Cannes Croisette and the Hotel Majestic Barriere will welcome the world’s finest players for the WSOPE, sponsored by BarrierePoker.fr, from 7-21 October, having previously been staged at London’s Casino at the Empire for the past four years. In addition a new Barriere Poker Tour 2011 will include seven stops offering a chance to qualify for the WSOPE. The stops will be Toulouse, Nice, Lille, Dinard, Enghien, Trouville and Bordeaux.
CIE chief executive Mitch Garber said: “This is a unique agreement between two casino leaders with great brands. Lucien Barrière Hôtels & Casinos is a well-run organisation and we are excited to work with them to access the French market with high-quality and reputable poker events both in their hotels and casinos, and online with BarrierePoker.fr.” |
